History

On March 26, 1930, in the midst of the Great Depression, Citizens National Bank (CNB) opened for business with capital stock of $100,000 and a surplus of $50,000. Not much by today’s standards, but a healthy beginning for those times. Most important, it represented the optimism and unshakable faith of eight men in the future of East Texas.First CNB ATM picture

In 1966, we introduced TV motor banking to East Texas and became Henderson’s first full-service bank with the addition of a Trust department in 1969. In 1979, we introduced our first automated teller machine (ATM), and by 1994, customers could access account information through an interactive Voice Response System. CNB began offering debit cards in 1999. In 2000, Internet Banking and Online Bill Pay were made available.

Between 1992 and 2005, CNB acquired several bank branches across East Texas. In 2007, we entered Smith County with our first Tyler branch. New branches were also opened in Marshall, Athens and Longview. Between 2013 and 2016, CNB acquired branches from four different banks. This included branches in White Oak, Longview (Pine Tree), Mexia, Palestine, Huntsville, Mount Pleasant, Corsicana, Lufkin, and Kilgore. During this time, CNB also opened a new branch in downtown Longview.

In 2010, CNB introduced Text Banking and Mobile Web Banking. The in 2011, we continued to introduce the latest technology to our customers with the addition of our mobile apps for iPhone® and Android™ phones. By September of 2013, we became one of the first banks in East Texas to offer Mobile Deposit.

We developed strategic partnerships that allowed us to extend our services and begin to offer investment and insurance products to our customers.

Today, we continue to provide our customers with competitive products, convenience through technology, and outstanding service to the communities we love to serve.

The Cow, the Sow, and the Hen

In the old days in this part of the country, if you had a cow, a sow, and a hen, you could survive. From the cow came the milk and butter; from the sow the bacon, lard, and hams; and from the hen, eggs. As East Texas became more and more affluent, we reminded ourselves and our customers - "Don't forget the cow, the sow, and the hen." - It appeared on the back of CNB deposit slips! This is a great reminder of how CNB started and our heritage.
